Waitangirua Action Group

The Waitangirua Action Group (WAG), which is associated with the Porirua Community Guardians, is run by three lovely ladies from the community. Sometimes known as the ‘graffiti grannies’ they provide initiatives and services that reduce tagging and graffiti vandalism throughout Porirua.

This includes:

  • reporting tagging and where appropriate undertaking its rapid removal across Porirua city
  • advising property owners on prevention, and encouraging quick removal – within 24 hours where possible
  • supervising community work sentences for young graffiti offenders
  • connecting and mentoring young taggers into other pursuits
  • assisting graffiti art workshops for local youth

The ‘WAG’ programme is very effective, but to be even more so we need more volunteers to spot and report tagging across the whole area.
