Guardians are local people who voluntarily help make their neighbourhoods safer through their positive presence
walking, talking and reassuring people.
Obvious in lime green uniforms, Community Guardians are a reassuring safe point of contact for those in need of help
or advice.
Launched in 2003, Porirua Community Guardians is a non-profit, community-based organisation under the umbrella of
Porirua Healthy Safer City Trust, and is affiliated to Community Patrols of New Zealand.
Porirua Community Guardians currently has around 50 volunteer Guardians who reflect the ethnic diversity of Porirua
City. They range in age from late teens to late 70s. All Guardians receive training and ongoing support.
